A judge at Bristol Crown Court told Daniel Rawlings, 38, of Bristol: "Fortune has smiled upon your child."

Police were tipped off about the motorist and boxed in his Audi Q7 but he spotted a gap and rammed a patrol car, escaping onto the M49 motorway.

LBC reports that he overtook cars and drove at speeds of 110mph. He left at a junction and drove at 50mph in a 20mph zone.

His car finally ground to a halt when a stinger device was used to blow out a tyre.

According to the Daily Mail, Rawlings admitted dangerous driving. It was his third conviction for the same crime.

He was banned from driving for three years and must take an extended test when released from prison.
