A judge has described a woman's dangerous driving as the worst he has ever witnessed.

Mother-of-two Megan Nolan drove at more than 120mph while being chased by police on the M60 and only stopped 20 minutes later when her Volkswagen Scirocco's engine blew up.

The 24-year-old, from Manchester, was branded selfish by Judge Martin Rudland at Manchester Crown Court.

"There is a phrase that I myself am never very keen to hear and to hear myself saying it is of a great surprise to me," he said.

"I have to tell you Megan Nolan that this was the worst piece of dangerous driving that I have ever witnessed in my 15 years on the bench."

According to the Metro, Nolan ran red lights, drove at 70mph in residential areas and travelled on the wrong side of the road.

She was jailed for a year and received a three-year driving ban.

The Daily Mail reports that Nolan had planned to take a job as a teaching assistant in September. She had been drinking with friends on June 4 before making her way home at 1am, when her speeding caught the attention of police officers.

Nolan, who was uninsured, will serve half of her sentence in custody and the remainder on licence.
