Woman's Sweet Gesture for Golden Retriever Before Crossing the Rainbow Bridge Is So Bittersweet

Saying goodbye to your dog is downright impossible. There's no right way to do it. One woman online wanted to send her Golden Retriever off with one final treat before she was put down, so she gave her something extra-special.

Most people consider this a huge doggy no-no, but there was one snack that Mackenzie Seton really wanted her dog to experience before it was too late — chocolate.

In an attempt to make the moment count, Seton pulled out a Lindor Truffle and gave it to her Golden Lily.

"Because no dog should go to Heaven not knowing how chocolate tastes," she explained in the video's onscreen caption.

Lily gobbled the treat up right-quick. Of course Seton gave the Golden Retriever some pets on the head as she chomped away.

"I miss my best friend," she wrote in the caption. Awww, absolutely gut-wrenching.

Amazingly, other people online have decided to break the rules one last time for their dogs too. "We gave ours a hamburger and a few Hershey's kisses. It’s been 6 months without her," one person wrote. "Our vet has a bowl of chocolate kisses saying one last kiss before they go," someone else shared. "I gave my girl a 10 piece and a McDouble on the ride to the vet and it didn’t seem like a grand enough gesture to repay her for the years of comfort and companionship," another commenter admitted.

Saying Goodbye to Your Pet

Forbidden foods and treats are one way to say goodbye to your fur-child, but there are many other ways to make those final days special.

The simplest gesture you can do for your dog is spend time with them. They love you! You're pretty much their favorite person. There's nothing they'd love more than to spend as much time as possible with you. So why not take them for one last walk, have one last cuddle, or make one last trip to the dog park. Depending on their health your dog might want to just sleep, so a day spent in bed could be nice too.

Quiet time at home can really be meaningful to your pet. Surround your dog by their favorite toys, in their favorite sleeping spot, and maybe even make them their favorite meal. They'll love it! And it might even mean more to them than doing something big.

There is no wrong way to say your final farewell. As long as your spending quality time together, your dog will feel so loved before heading over the rainbow bridge.
