Woman jailed after driving into another car at 104mph leaving mother and baby seriously injured

A woman has been jailed after driving into a car at 104mph, leaving a mother with life-changing injuries and a baby seriously injured.

Leanne Webb ploughed her Audi into a Kia Venga at high-speed on the A4123 Wolverhampton Road in Oldbury on 8 May 2019.

A 28-year-old woman was driving the Kia Venga with her 18-month-old daughter in the car.

The young mum was left with life-changing injuries while her daughter also suffered serious injuries.

Webb, of Wychall Lane, Kings Norton, claimed she was not at fault for the collision.

She instead blamed the 28-year-old mother for turning across her path.

But during the court trial, Webb did admit to dangerous driving although she claimed she was driving under duress - a defence which was not accepted by the jury.

Judge Berlin sentenced Webb to four years and four months in prison on Friday, after she was found guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She was also handed a six-year and 10-month driving disqualification and she will have to complete an extended driving test before being allowed back behind the wheel.

Sergeant Mark Crozier, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Witness testimony, CCTV evidence and forensic reconstruction were vital in this case proving that, at the point of collision, Webb was travelling at not less than 104mph along the 40mph dual carriageway.

“Her imprisonment will never compensate for the level of injury suffered by a mother and her young daughter.

“Once again the dangerous driving of one selfish individual has resulted in untold suffering for the family and friends of the victim, who will never fully recover from the devastating injuries she sustained as a result of this collision.

“She continues to receive rehabilitation treatment in a residential care facility.”
