Last week, the official coin of King Charles III was unveiled by the Royal Mint, which will eventually replace all currency that pictures Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Now the Royal Mint has released a special Queen Elizabeth II memorial coin collection, in tribute to the longest-reigning monarch in British history. The collection is also the first opportunity to own a coin with the new King Charles III portrait by Martin Jennings.

The King’s portrait is featured on a special £5 Crown and 50p, which on the reverse features a portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the centre as a tribute to her life and service.

The collection is a limited run and is available from Monday, 3 October 2022 until Saturday, 31 December 2022.

Many of us want to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's life and make sure we have a keepsake for years to come. A timeless memento would be one of The Royal Mint's commemorative coins – of which there are many options.

The collectables range in price, starting from £7 for a special 50p coin commissioned for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, to uncirculated – and therefore rarer – coins directly from The Royal Mint that can go for thousands.

The uncirculated coin has '70' and the dates 1952-2022 on one side and a portrait of the Queen on a horse on the other. This coin has a finer finish than the 50p coins currently in circulation, making it a great collectable.

This was also the first time a royal event had been commemorated on a UK 50p coin, so that makes it extra special.

As well as the coin itself, collectors will receive a booklet exploring the Queen's life throughout the years. The coin sits atop this booklet, giving you the option to keep them both together for the future.
