Some This Morning viewers threatened to switch over as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield hosted a special Downton Abbey episode, saying it was “boring” for people who didn’t watch the period drama.

The presenters swapped their usual studio for Highclere Castle in Hampshire (where the ITV series is filmed), to mark the release of the Downton film.

After being shown in by Downton butler Mr Carson (Jim Carter), the pair had a look around the stunning building and chatted to some of the film’s stars. They even took their iconic sofa with them for the interviews.

The one-off instalment went down a storm with Downton fans, but regular This Morning viewers who don’t tune in to follow the lives of the Crawleys admitted they felt a bit left out.

One disgruntled viewer said on Twitter: “I’m going to have to switch #ThisMorning over in a minute.

“For someone who does not like Downton it’s pretty boring.”

“Never watched an episode in my life so this should be a fun show today,” said another, adding a pair of sleeping emojis.

“Don’t actually like Downton so tuning out of the overkill today on #ThisMorning #ITV,” tweeted another.

“Pretty much buggered #This Morning if you don't like or care about Downton Abbey aren't you, “ said another.

“Time to find something else to watch for the morning.”

One person questioned why This Morning themed their show around Downton when other movies don’t get the same.

“Why is Downton getting the special treatment?” asked the viewer.

“It’s not like #ThisMorning were promoting 50 Shades in a Soho sex dungeon, were they?”

The Downton Abbey film, which features the cast from the TV show including Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville, is released in UK cinemas on September 13.
