Torrential Rain Washes Out Bridges in West Sumatra

Torrential rain brought flooding and damaged several bridges in Padang Pariaman Regency in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province on Monday, December 10, Antara news agency reported.The bridge collapse in Kayu Tanam effectively paralysed the primary transport route between the two main cities of West Sumatra province – Padang, the provincial capital, and Bukittinggi.Budi Mulya, the head of the regional disaster management agency at Padang Pariaman Regency, told Indonesian news website Detik that a total of five bridges were damaged.This video, shared by the West Sumatra traffic police, shows the level of damage sustained by the Kayu Tanam bridge.
