Surveillance Footage Shows Vandalism at Metropolitan Republican Club Prior to Gavin McInnes Event

The Metropolitan Republican Club of New York on Sunday, October 14, released surveillance footage that showed vandalism on its building in the early hours of October 12, when an event with right-wing provocateur Gavin McInnes was planned. The New York Times reported that anarchist symbols were painted on the doors of the club and windows were broken hours before the event.McInnes is the founder of the Proud Boys, a far-right men’s organization that is considered a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.“A note was left that stated among other things that ‘Our attack was merely a beginning’,” the Metropolitan Republican Club said in a statement.Fights ensued between anti-fascist protesters and the Proud Boys after the event, with a video posted to social media showing alleged McInnes supporters kicking a man on the ground.Police reportedly arrested three left-wing protesters, raising questions why they made no arrests of the far-right supporters.
