Police Wade Through Floods to Rescue 79-Year-Old Man in Queensland

A 79-year-old man trapped by floodwaters in Maxwelton, Queensland, had to be evacuated from his home by helicopter in early February, as seen in this video shared by police.The footage, said to have been filmed on February 7, shows police wading through floodwaters to reach a man called Denis, who is seen sitting in a chair in his doorway with water up to his thighs.Maxwelton is about 550km west of Townsville, where floods struck in early February.Bodycam footage from the officers shows them lead the pensioner from his home and into the waiting helicopter, which brought him to higher and drier ground, according to police.Floods ravaged areas near Maxwelton, including Mount Isa, Julia Creek, Richmond and Cloncurry, where farmers copped significant losses to cattle numbers.
