Japan's Sakurajima Volcano Twice Blows Off Plume of Steam

Japan’s most active volcano twice blew off plumes of steam accompanied by a volcanic explosion early on Sunday, December 16. The Japan Meteorological Agency’s camera caught the first blast just before 4am and the second plume about 30 minutes later.The blasts took place on Sakurajima’s southern peak, Minami-dake, one of three on the mountain and the one that is currently active.
