Extinction Rebellion called on supporters to gather in Trafalgar Square on Wednesday afternoon to defy their ban to protest, which police warned will leave them liable to arrest. Guardian columnist and climate change activist George Monbiot joined more than 500 Extinction Rebellion activists, as he made an attempt to get arrested. Activists put black tape over their mouths, to symbolise the silencing of their protests by police.
