Two girls were swept down by torrents as they take photos in middle of river in China

Two girls were swept away by torrents as they attempted to take photos in the middle of a river in southern China.

One of them was quickly pulled ashore while the search for the other girl continued.

The rescue team rushed to the scene and thought that the girl had sunk to the bottom of the water so they adopted sonar scanning.

Two hours later she was found under the dam waterfall by witnesses. The girl was crouched in a small space under the pier while waiting for rescue.

The rescue team then used boards to block the dam and pulled the girl out before taking her to hospital.

The video was filmed on May 11 in Jishou city and provided by local media.
