Closely following was Northumberland, which was awarded the silver trophy, and the Cumbria/Lake District region which was awarded the bronze trophy.
The news that Cornwall is a hit with British families doesn't come as a huge surprise - after all, it's long been a firm favourite with Brits.
However, the accolade does prove that Cornwall consistently offers up a holiday unlike any other, especially if you're on a budget.
Not to mention there's ample opportunity to make the most of the great outdoors.
Think seriously beautiful (and sometimes hidden) beaches, spectacular coastal walks, unique landmarks and plenty of charming towns. The list of things to see and do goes on and on.
In fact, with so much choice just finding the right itinerary for you can seem like a somewhat overwhelming task, so we've joined forces with our sister site Cornwall Live to give you a helping hand.
The team has created the ultimate insider's guide to Cornwall with top tips on the best things to see and do, brilliant hotels that won't break the bank, and even local haunts from the best eateries to the beaches where you won't find crowds of tourists in the summer months.
Not to mention we've also searched out the Poldark filming locations for fans of the hit TV show.
Of course, this is Britain and no matter what the season, the weather can be pretty volatile - but have no fear as the guide also includes what to visit if you find yourself caught out on a rainy day.
