Male dolphins observed giving gifts to potential mates

The behaviour has been documented for the first time

The University of Western Australia reports that, for the first time, male dolphins have been observed giving gifts to prospective mates.

Research carried out over 10 years recorded male dolphins diving underwater to dislodge sea sponges, and then offer it as a gift to show a female he's a strong and worthy mate. Find out more on the story in the video above.
