The team of travel gurus looked into the cost of hotel stays in Europe's biggest cities - and found that prices dropped up to a jaw-dropping 50% in November.

They searched over 200 booking sites for the lowest hotel prices and found that compared to October rates, there were six European hotspots where you can bag a serious travel bargain.

Venice, Lisbon, Dubrovnik, Budapest, Rome and Prague topped the list as offering great hotel rates in November - and chances are at least one of these major cities is on your bucket list anyway!

So even if you are saving the pennies, the cheap prices are the perfect excuse to make an exception and book in a pre-Christmas holiday abroad.

To give you an extra helping hand, TripAdvisor revealed two great cheap hotels offering the best rates for each destination too - check out the full details below...

Venice

Venice hotels are working out up to 47% cheaper in November, with an average nightly rate of £174.

That leaves plenty of holiday budget for gondola rides, sampling that famous Italian cuisine at the Piazza San Marco, or exploring the beautiful St Mark's Basilica.

However, it is worth noting that the weather in November can be somewhat volatile, so bring a brolly in case there's rain. Temperatures are similar to the UK, with a daily average of around 12C so pack some extra jumpers if you're going to be out and about.

Lisbon

The capital of Portugal makes for a seriously trendy getaway thanks to the vibrant nightlife, stunning landscapes and cultural hubs all waiting to be discovered - and in November hotel stays can be up to 43% cheaper.

Temperatures in November tend to stay fairly mild, with a balmy 18C in the daytime making ideal sightseeing conditions.

Dubrovnik

By November the crowds of tourists have dispersed, so not only will you get to explore the city at your own leisurely pace, but you could also enjoy savings of up to 41% on hotel stays.

Game of Thrones fans have been flocking to the Croatian city ever since it served as King's Landing in the hit TV show , but there's so much more on offer than a TV fanatic's dream.

Think effortlessly cool bars, jaw-dropping architecture, and plenty of local history and culture waiting to be discovered.

Just be warned, temperatures can drop to as low as 5C - so make sure to pack plenty of layers.

As for the temperatures, there are plenty of thermal baths to keep you warm, as well as impressive sights and attractions (many of which are indoors) to check out.

Oh, and then of course there are the bars serving up craft beers for an end-of-the-day treat.
