A Devon hotel has won the Seaside Hotel of the Year, while the most luxurious can be found in Rutland, and the best country house is apparently in North Yorkshire.

The Soar Mill Cove Hotel in Salcombe (pictured top) was the recipient of the coveted top coastal placing in the Good Hotel Guide's César Awards 2018.

The hotel is owned by Keith Makepeace, and features its own beach, heated saltwater swimming pool, and spa, as well as boasting fabulous coastal walks and even dolphin sightings.

According to DevonLive, iconic actress Audrey Hepburn visited the hotel in 1983. She called pavlova, created by Granny Makepeace, 'divine'.


The full list of the best hotels, B&B and inns are released on Monday, but the Daily Mail revealed a little sneak peek of some of the top winners.

Former 18th century inn, The Mash Inn, in Radnage, Buckinghamshire, was named Newcomer of the Year, while Hambleton Hall in Rutland is the place to go for indulgence after winning Luxury Hotel of the Year. Expect Michelin-star dining and beautiful marble bathrooms at this former hunting lodge.

Looking for a romantic weekend away? The Forest Side in Grasmere, Cumbria, has won top spot for romance, while fans of country retreats should head to Judges in Yarm, North Yorkshire, which is the Country House of the Year winner.
