Ex-BA stewardess says racist Snapchat was a 'just a joke'

Joanne Wickenden recorded the video before flying from London to Abuja in Nigeria

The now ex-British Airways stewardess who posted a 'racist' Snapchat rant against Nigerian passengers reportedly claims 'it was just a joke'.

Joanne Wickenden recorded the offensive clip while wearing her uniform before flying from London Heathrow to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on Friday evening.

In the one minute clip she said: "All Nigerians are going to be asking for f****** upgrades" along with a slew of derogatory comments about passengers she deals with on a daily basis.

She is understood to have been called into an emergency meeting with bosses today to explain the footage - and tonight she is no longer in employment by the airline.

A BA spokeswoman wouldn't be drawn on whether she was sacked or resigned.

In a statement issued to the Mirror tonight, BA would only say: "We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways."

The MailOnline reports that the 23-year-old wannabe actress has insisted to friends 'I am not a racist' - and claims the video clip was 'just a joke'.

She told MailOnline: "I have been framed by another BA employee. They were encouraging me, egging me on to say things. They were recording me and sent it around to our friends."

She added: "I don't want to fly anymore."

A friend said that another colleague wanted her to 'do an impression' of the kind of things which happen during the flight.

The video clip - which was captioned 'I can't cope with this flight' - was circulated among horrified BA cabin crew.

MirrorOnline reported yesterday how Wickenden was an aspiring actress looking for 'male company' on dating websites.

The airline was said to be investigating after Snapchat footage emerged showing a woman dressed in a BA uniform, making derogatory comments about passengers on a flight to Nigeria.

Wickenden has a profile on the dating website Plenty of Fish, according to the MailOnline, and describes herself as a 'princess' who likes a laugh.

The 23-year-old also details her job as a flight attendant on the site.

The clip was apparently filmed in Wickenden's car as she drove to work ahead of a flight from London Heathrow to Abuja on Friday night.

It was posted on Snapchat and circulated among shocked BA staff, who reported it to bosses.

In the one-minute clip, which was captioned 'I can't cope with this flight', Wickenden claims "all Nigerians are going to be asking for f****** upgrades".

Wickenden appears to insinuate male Nigerian passengers would need extra leg room because of the size of their penises.

Complaining about the upcoming flight, she says: "Alright, so all of yous are there getting ready for your Friday night, getting in the pre-drinks, you know, as you do.

"And I'm here, getting ready to go to work, put on a yellow life jacket, point out the exits, hand out chicken or beef, what sort of Friday night is this for me?

"The upside is I'm going to Nigeria and there's gonna be bare B**, I'm joking, I'm joking.

"All the Nigerians are gonna be there like 'gimme Coca Cola, gimme me beef, why you have no beef left? I want beef.'

"And I'm just gonna be there like, 'Sorry sir, we ran out of beef'.

Joanne's comments were investigated by British Airways - and she is no longer in a job

"All the Nigerians are gonna be there asking for f****** upgrades because they haven't got enough leg room because their B**s are in their way.

"Big d**** like this swinging from side to side."

British Airways confirmed yesterday that they were investigating the footage - and followed it up with the short one line statement this evening.
