The UK is home to a whole host of brilliant museums from historic buildings to galleries with impressive art collections - but there are an elite few that never fail to dazzle visitors.

Now, the UK's top 10 best museums have been revealed by tourists themselves, in this year's TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards.

London proved to be a hit with travellers, with 6 out of the 10 museums being located in the capital.

Taking the top spot is the iconic Victoria & Albert Museum, dedicated to all things art and design. In fact, the V&A also made it into the top 10 best museums worldwide, proving it's become a firm favourite with visitors everywhere.

But it wasn't just London museums which caught our attention; there are some great offerings in York, Edinburgh and Belfast which also made the list.

We take a look at the UK's top 10 museums and why they should be on your radar - the best part is that most of them are free!

1. Victoria & Albert Museum, London

The museum regularly holds exciting exhibitions - such as its world-famous David Bowie tribute - and has plenty of art and fashion waiting to be discovered.

It's becoming more popular than ever too, with Deputy Director Tim Reeve revealing that this summer proved to be the two busiest months in the museum's history.

4. Natural History Museum, London
