Bioluminescence lights up beach in China

A bright blue mass could be spotted floating on the surface of the water


An incredible video has emerged of a beach glowing in the dark because of micro-algae floating in the sea.

The clip, shot in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, shows a bright blue mass gathered on the surface of the water.

According to National Geographic, bioluminescence is 'light produced by a chemical reaction within a living organism.'

While bioluminescent organisms are mostly found in the ocean, such as fish and jellies, they can also be found on land in the form of organisms such as fireflies and fungi.
