Britain's priciest seaside town has been revealed as Sandbanks in Dorset in a Halifax study.

It is the second year in a row that the exclusive location has topped the annual survey, with the average price of a house at £664,051.

Salcombe in Devon came second on the list, with the average home valued at £617,743.

The research revealed that the average house price in Britain's seaside towns has increased by 25%, from £181,060 in 2007 to £226,916 in 2017, over the last ten years.

Outside of southern England, the most expensive seaside areas are North Berwick and St Andrews, both in Scotland.

However, Scotland is also the place to find the least expensive seaside locations, with Port Bannatyne named the cheapest spot, where the average house costs £71,550.

Martin Ellis, Halifax housing economist, said: "Being by the seaside does come at a price - with the marked increase in house prices reflecting the demand for rooms with a 'sea' view.

"Over the past decade, house prices in the South East, especially coastal towns within commutable distance to London, have shown strong growth and have become Britain's most expensive seaside towns."
