British dad arrested in Tenerife 'after leaving daughter alone'

A British father has been arrested in the Canary Islands after allegedly leaving his eight-year-old daughter alone to go drinking while they were on holiday in Tenerife.

The girl reportedly sought the help of staff at the Hotel Aguamarina Golf in the south of the island in the early hours of Thursday morning when her dad turned up drunk and was "causing damage".

She was carrying two suitcases when she went to the reception of the hotel, located close to the port of San Miguel, the Daily Mail reports.

The 52-year-old father was arrested when he appeared on the scene naked with a gash to his head.

The Daily Mirror reports that it is not clear where the girl's mother was at the time of the incident.

A Civil Guard spokeswoman declined to name the man.
