Fifteen wedding guests injured after hotel staircase collapsed

Fifteen wedding guests were injured when a staircase collapsed as they were posing for photos.

Five people were taken to hospital after the horror accident following the nuptials of Andrew Hughes, 29, and amy-Lenna Bryce, 26.

The wedding party had gathered on an outdoor staircase at the Holiday Inn in Hemel Hempstead, Herts., when it suddenly gave way.

The group fell about ten feet and suffered injuries to their legs, heads and necks.

The bride and groom were able to walk away from the ordeal but are said to be understandably distraught.

Father-of-the-bride Christopher Bryce, 52, told The Sun : "I could get really angry, but now isn't the time.

"A lot of people are still recovering from their injuries and my main focus is to help my daughter in her recovery."

Describing the carnage, another guest said: "People were still getting in to place when there was an almighty crack - it was almost instantaneous.

"As soon as everyone was ready, they all came crashing down.

"People were screaming, it was horrendous."

Holiday Inn said they are investigating the incident and hope to help the couple rearrange their celebration.

A spokesman said: "We have been in constant contact with those impacted to ensure they have our support.

"A full investigation has been launched and we are cooperating fully with authorities."
