'Grumpy' elephant throws female tourist into air

Whitney Lavaux was just trying to help wash the enormous elephant

This animal lover was enjoying the trip of a lifetime when she was brought back down to earth with a bump by a grumpy elephant.

American student Whitney Lavaux wanted to get closer to nature - and certainly managed that after stumbling upon elephants being washed by locals in Chiang Mai.

She decided to lend a helping hand and began brushing the mighty beast's trunk as a pal filmed.

But the majestic creature was evidently camera-shy - and suddenly lobbed Whitney into the air with a thrust of its tusks.

The friend can be heard gasping as she rushes to help Whitney, who lands on the backside in ankle-deep muddy water.

Thankfully the student was unhurt.

And apparently the incident inspired a new sport.

She gave the video the tongue-in-cheek caption "Elephlying in Thailand" when she uploaded it on YouTube.
