Teddy bear acts as surrogate mother to baby anteater

Updated

The staff at ZSL London Zoo were thrilled when they found out one of their anteaters was expecting.

Unfortunately, when the baby anteater named Beanie came into the world, her mother just wasn't up to the task of parenting.

Beanie has since found comfort in the arms of a fuzzy teddy bear.

Although zoo personnel perform the bulk of the responsibilities, when it comes to bed time, the bear takes over.

Staff hope that when Beanie is a few months older she can be successfully reintroduced to the zoo's giant anteater community.
