Little kebab house is TripAdvisor's best restaurant in London

A little kebab house tucked away in a side street in Angel is currently topping TripAdvisor ratings as the best restaurant in London.

Liman Restaurant, run by young Kurdish couple Niyazi and Berivan Tezik, is beating off Michelin-starred powerhouses like Petrus and Barrafina, according to the Evening Standard.

With Mrs Tezik being a pastry chef and Mr Tezik having worked at the Royal Albert Hall and Sofra in Mayfair, it looks like this couple are stiff competition. And with shish kebabs selling for £9.80, and the cheapest dish, lentil soup, on at £3.90, it's affordable eating too.

Manager Mrs Bicli says the number one spot on TripAdvisor can bring pressure, and that she has to explain to people that "we are not fine-dining, we are not five-star but people search the best restaurant in London and book us without checking anything".

However, they've certainly got five-star reviews on the site, and people are singing its praises.

One guest wrote: "We came into London for a nice meal and we didn't get one; we got a phenomenal meal! This place isn't a 5* hotel restaurant with a Michelin star chef so if that's what you're looking for then go somewhere else, but before you do, ask yourself why this place is ranked #1 out of over 17000 restaurants in London...?"

Another said: "We came here because it was the top reviewed restaurant in London. When we got here we didn't really understand what gave it that status but as soon as the food was served we learned! Amazing food, big portions and a friendly price! Staff very, very friendly. Definitely recommend!"

The Liman nudged The Golden Chippy in Greenwich High Road into number two out of London's 17,694 restaurants on TripAdvisor.
