Every year, workers harvest ice from the nearby Songhua River and build some incredible sculptures and monuments using a total of 180,000 cubic metres of ice over an area twice the size of Disneyland. The average temperature in Harbin is just 8F (around -13C).
The festival is expected to last until February.
