A man accidentally drove his car into a lake in Australia - when an enormous huntsman spider landed on his arm and scared the living daylights out of him.

The man panicked and his car went head first into Lake Cathie, reports the Metro.

Speaking to local paper, Macquarie Port News, he explained: "I meant to hit the brake but instead I accidentally hit the accelerator.

"I was surprised at how deep it was."

The driver said he couldn't get his door open as it was locked, but he managed to escape through his window, which was already three-quarters of the way open.

Paramedics attended the scene and treated the man for minor injuries, while a process of recovery for the car got under way.

And if you think he overreacted, here's a couple of scary facts about huntsman spiders: they are also known as giant crab spiders because of their size and appearance; they can grow up to 12 inches; they can eat animals as big as mice. Ewww. In fact, the Metro recently reported on a huntsman carrying his mouse lunch around someone's house in Australia. Even bigger ewwww.
