Passengers on a commercial British Airways flight got the shock of a lifetime when Kate Middleton stepped on board to join them - like a regular person.

Well, OK, she admittedly had a team of staff and bodyguards with her, and was allowed to deplane a few minutes before the rest of the travellers, but apart from that was just like any other passenger.

Looking pretty in her Catherine Walker skirt suit, the duchess was returning from her first solo engagement abroad in the Netherlands.

She boarded the 7.15pm BA flight from Rotterdam to London City Airport on Tuesday night, according to Yahoo.

Kate's mother, Carole, and father, Michael, both once worked as flight attendants for BA.

Of course, stunned passengers on the flight wasted no time in snapping some pics of Kate as she boarded.

One flier, Alyssa Ashton, shared a photo and wrote on Twitter: "Can you imagine sitting on the plane waiting to take off and Kate Middleton walks on. My dream! She obvi got to get off the plane first."

During her trip to the Netherlands, Kate visited the Mauritshuis gallery, where she was given a personal tour of an exhibition featuring Dutch Old Masters loaned by the Royal Collection, with artwork, furniture and other objects collected over centuries by the British monarchy.

She fittingly wore pearl earrings borrowed from the Queen as she viewed the famous painting by Johannes Vermeer, The Girl With The Pearl Earring.

She also toured the museum's permanent collection, where she viewed, and "particularly enjoyed", The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius, reports the New Zealand Herald.
