Although the crash occurred in the early hours, it's clear that the plane was yet to be moved later on as members of the public took to Twitter, posting photos of the plane in broad daylight.

While the plane didn't actually land at Orio al Serio, the airport was closed for a short amount of time before reopening just before 7am.

According to The Local, there were 15 flights cancelled at the airport and some were diverted to Milan Malpensa Airport which is nearly 100km away.

Those expecting to fly to or from the airport today have been warned to check their flight details before travelling.
