British woman hires diver to find ring lost on Majorca holiday

A British holidaymaker spent £1000 hiring an underwater metal detector to find a ring she lost at the beach while on holiday in Majorca.

Katie Patterson, 24, originally from Belfast but now at Keele University, lost the £10,000 ring that was passed down from her grandma while she was paddling in the sea.

She flew home from her holiday in 15 July, but went six days later with retired diver, George Edmunds, 75, from Dorset.

According to the Mirror, she said: "I am the fourth generation of my family to have this ring.

"I was very close to my nana and I always admired the ring on her finger from the age of five. She left it to me when she died two years ago."

George slipped on his snorkel and, using his waterproof metal detector, he found the ring buried three inches into the ground around 30ft from the beach in under an hour.

After playing a little joke on her that all he'd found was some old coins, he said Katie was "over the moon".

She described her "immense relief" and showered George with lots of hugs and kisses.

Just last week, a holidaymaker who thought he'd lost his GoPro to the bottom of a lake forever was reunited with it after a year.

Dan Rose and Madeline Rose were on a family fishing trip at Lake Pier in Hamworthy, Poole, when they found the camera.

In an attempt to find the camera's owner, Rose put together a video of the footage they found on the undamaged SD card.

They posted the film to YouTube, and received over two million views.

The camera was traced to 17-year-old Joshua White, who had been on holiday in Poole last August when he lost the camera, and said he had been "gutted that I lost it."
