The Radical Innovation Awards have asked architects for new hotel designs, and what they received was truly groundbreaking.

Architecture firms and even students submitted their ideas for their futuristic hotels.

One of this year's professional finalists was the architecture firm HOK Toronto who created a pop-up concept.

The idea was a mobile, self-sustaining hotel delivered by drones to hard to reach or under-utilised areas.

Another finalist, Paris based MM Architects, produced the concept of customisable units they can connect and be placed in parks and other under-funded places.

This year's student finalist was Juan Orduz from the University of Nevada who literally took his hotel into space.

Ten years ago some of these ideas would have been impossible to consider but radical innovation founder, John Hardy, says today it's not so hard to see how it would work.
