A brother and sister, who thought they were just snagged on a rock, caught quite a surprise when instead of a rock or even a fish, they reeled in a GoPro covered in barnacles from the bottom of a lake in Dorset.

Dan Rose and Madeline Rose were on a family fishing trip at Lake Pier in Hamworthy, Poole, when they found the camera.

YouTuber Dan Rose was able to access the final moments from the stunningly undamaged SD card on the camera, which included images of a close-encounter with a crab posing for a selfie.

In an attempt to find the camera's owner, Rose put together a video of the footage.

They posted the film to YouTube, and received over two million views.

According to the Mirror, the camera was traced to 17-year-old Joshua White after somebody recognised his cousin, who made a fleeting appearance in the footage.

He had been on holiday in Poole last August when he lost the camera. The BBC reports that the teen backflipped off a pier and lost control of the GoPro, which was strapped to his head.

Speaking to the Bournemouth Echo, Josh said: "At the time I thought doing a flip in to the water with the camera strapped to my head would make for some great footage.

"I felt it dislodge and saw it go into the water. I tried several times to dive down to find it but the water was too deep. I was pretty gutted that I lost it."

Dan has now managed to repair the device, and Josh added: "I am really grateful to Maddie and Dan for everything they have done. I'm looking forward to getting it back as there is other footage on there from my holiday last year that I never got to see."
