If you're looking for the UK's hidden gems, you don't have to look too far to marvel at the country's most dazzling wonders. Crossness Pumping Station in South East London, for instance, is no ordinary sewage pumping station. Step inside and you'll be wowed by some of the most impressive ornamental Victorian cast ironwork around, elaborately painted in French grey, Indian red and vermilion.

Even central London has its secrets, such as the richly decorated interior of All Saints Margaret Street. There is no part of the church's walls left undecorated and visitors can gaze at the marble, tiles and wonderful series of paintings.

Cardiff Castle might be one of the most famous attractions in Cardiff but visitors are often surprised to find the lavish Arab Room. Tucked away off a little corridor and completely unexpected, the gold ceiling needs to be seen to be believed.
