One TripAdvisor user entitled her review 'worst place on Earth' adding: "My god, park was not nice, our place looked like it had not been cleaned in a month, and my god food was not good, fish and chip shop. Were rude, can't cook, never going back, my dog had a better place to stay in."

Another review, entitled 'One night in a dirty death camp', read: "Booked one night through hotels.com as they showed new luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms on their listing. We were given a chalet with no bedding or towels and a fold out sofa bed. Room was dirty, big box analogue TV with snow storm picture. NO WIFI in room as stated. Really worn out room. Came here 4 years ago and thought benefit of the doubt. Worst move made."

And, according to the Liverpool Echo, one user said:" We expected cheap and cheerful accommodation but we arrived to a health hazard.

"If you value yours and your children's health do not stay here as the mould and damp on the windows and doors might be too much for you."

However, there appeared to plenty of reviews on TripAdvisor that said the park was not as bad as the negative reviews suggested, and that you get what you pay for.

One said: "Had a lovely stay at Pontins this week with all my family! Not the best but it does exactly what it says on the tin. Extra special mention to Gaz the barman at the Queen Vic he was so helpful and always went the extra mile to make sure we had the most enjoyable stay possible. Thanks Gaz. There are a lot of activities for the children to do for free and the beach isn't too far to walk, will definitely be back soon."

Another read: "Had a couple of nights' stay here over the weekend with family and it was great. The stay was ok, not as bad as everyone makes out, it's basic but does the job! Its a good place to stay to have a laugh with family and friends. I have to put a special mention to Gary behind the bar at the Queen Vic bar and restaurant. He was fantastic, out of all the staff at Pontins he always had a smile, and was a laugh! Very polite and made our stay that bit better! Anyone wanting to book, you should, its no Caesar's Palace but with the right people you'll have a ball. The kids will love it."
