A British holidaymaker has died on a return flight home from Dubai to Manchester.

The 71-year-old holidaymaker was reportedly already feeling ill when he boarded flight EK21, which departed from Dubai at 3am and landed in Manchester at 7.50am UK time on Monday morning.

According to the Daily Mail, the man collapsed near the end of the seven-hour flight as the plane was descending towards Manchester Airport.

It has been reported that all passengers on board the aircraft disembarked before the man's body was removed.

Speaking to Emirates 24/7, an airline spokesperson confirmed the death, saying: "Emirates can confirm that a passenger on board Emirates flight EK21 from Dubai to Manchester passed away during the flight. Emirates expresses its condolences to the family."

A spokesman for Manchester Airport also confirmed the news, telling the Independent: "Manchester Airport can confirm a passenger sadly passed away on an inbound flight this morning (Monday)."

The Manchester Evening News reports that Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to Manchester Airport at 7.59am on Monday morning after reports that a man had died onboard a plane.

They added that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
