Sometimes things aren't always as they seem. And that saying is particularly pertinent for this beautiful wolf picture.

A talented bodypainter's latest trick of the eye is certainly a howling success - transforming three naked women into a majestic wolf.

Johannes Stoetter used nothing but paint and clever positioning of his models to create the incredible animal artwork.

At first glance it looks like a great painting of a wolf sitting down with its head tilted back, howling at the moon, but on closer inspection a keen eye can make out it's actually three intertwined bodies.

Can't see the women? Look closely and you'll see that one woman forms the belly and back leg, another creates the front leg, nose and bottom jaw with her elbows and hand, and the third creates the tail and back.

Johannes said the piece was one of his most difficult to date.

Speaking to the Metro, he said: "It was difficult to find the perfect position and it was quite hard for the models to hold the positions, from time to time they needed a break.

"Also it was difficult because the wolf is a mammal and it has a fur coat, which is much more difficult to paint and to make seem realistic than the skin of an amphibian or a reptile."

Johannes said it was also his longest project, taking eight hours in total and six hours of "pure painting".

According to The Sun, he added: "People who have seen it say the wolf is my best work. Generally everybody likes it. People are fascinated and they say that it is even more difficult to find the people than in my other works."
