Bus driver rampages through pub after being sacked

A bus driver has appeared in court after he went on a rampage in a pub when he was told he'd lost his job.

Martin Lewis, 56, reportedly caused £9,000 worth of damage at the Stag pub in Treorchy, Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Mr Lewis was relieved of his job driving buses in Coventry for "not knowing the roads well enough".

According to the BBC, Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court was told he also caused £12,000 in damage at his local Jobcentre days later over delays to benefits payments.

Prosecutor Rachel Knight said: "He caused damage to just about everything that was not nailed down.

"The bar manager said it was completely out of the blue. He went outside to call 999 and the rampage continued. He said he didn't know what the defendant was going to do next."

He was seen throwing chairs, bottles and tables in the pub. Speaking to the The Daily Telegraph pub manager Nazmul Sumon said: "It is so sad because we didn't have any argument at all.

"Apparently he had gone crazy and he just came in and started smashing up the place.

"We are almost back to normal but it hit me hard as I had to pay for the damage on my credit card."

Lewis admitted criminal damage and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.
