Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway slammed for rewarding 'fraudster' with free cruise

Updated

A woman who lied about an injury to take three months off work was rewarded with a cruise holiday on ITV show Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Andrea Murdoch explained on the entertainment show that she faked a shoulder injury while working at a bar to go on holiday to Italy and even drew a scar on her arm to keep up the lie.

After appearing on the show's Coronation Deceit sketch, she won a free cruise around the Mediterranean.

But angry viewers took to social media to criticise the show, with one writing: "Not being funny but someone who faked sick for 3 months to go on holiday doesn't deserve another one for free..."

Another said: "Really. Fake 3 months off and get rewarded with a cruise. I asked for an hour off for the doctors and was told I had to use holidays".

Now Andrea has defended herself, saying that she lied about the injury "to keep her job".

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, she said: "This was over 20 years ago and did not get paid I did lie about my operation but only to keep my job when I got back over 20 years ago.

"I now own my own business and work for myself. So all you haters get your facts right before you comment!"

Andrea owns the luxury Hotel Commodore in Wales.

A friend of Murdoch defended her saying, "it was donkey's years ago" and people "need to get a grip".
