Amazing photograph appears to show phoenix in the sky above Iceland

A photographer in Iceland may have snapped the best Northern Lights photos you will ever see, including one picture that resembles an outstretched phoenix rising above the country's dramatic landscape.

Hallgrimur P. Helgason took the pictures in Kaldasel and said he had been shooting for an hour when the mythical creature appeared.

The 64-year-old told Metro: "It's really a thrill shooting the aurora, especially when they are so playful like they were that night.

"I have to admit that I always get an adrenaline kick when the lights burst out like that – that particular shot was the top one of the night."

Meanwhile, astronaut Tim Peake has shared an impressive Northern Lights shot of his own.

Posting the photo on Facebook, he wrote: "The International Space Station just passed straight through a thick green fog of aurora... eerie but very beautiful."
