The Grandview Aquarium, located inside a shopping mall in China, has been branded "the world's saddest zoo".

The animals, which include polar bears, live there in horrifying conditions and no natural light and are clearly in extremely poor health.

The aquarium opened its doors on January 9th this year, and the poor state of its animals has already come under fire from Chinese citizens and animal rights campaigners.

Critics say the beluga whales and the walrus calves are being kept in spaces too small for them and that keeping animals in these types of cages is threatening their wellbeing.

Animals Asia, an international animal welfare organisation, is campaigning to close the zoo down. You can sign the petition on this page.
