Roof Collapse: Lucky Escape for Pedestrians in Shepherd's Bush

This video captures the moment pedestrians on a street in Shepherd's Bush, London got a lucky escape when high winds caused a roof to collapse onto the pavement below.

The footage shows bricks, planks and debris raining down on the pavement below, although thankfully there was no one standing directly below when it happened and miraculously no one was seriously hurt when the building on Uxbridge Road caved in on 5 December.

One passerby obviously heard or saw the debris falling and managed to dart quickly out of the way of the falling bricks.

The building is currently undergoing renovation work by the owners. Hammersmith and Fulham Council say there is no further immediate danger.

According to the Standard, the London Fire Brigade was called to the scene at 3.21pm.

Carl English witnessed the incident and told the Standard: ""I heard this creaking noise and then turned around and saw bricks flying.

"People were screaming and running out the way. Then a guy I literally just walked past got hit in the head with a brick. He was bleeding a lot but he was able to get up.

He added: "It looks as though the roof has collapsed in one of the flats above the shops. It doesn't look as though anyone was in at the time."

Less than three weeks ago a £3.8 million house on the banks of the Thames collapsed while building work was ongoing.

The entire house in Barnes was thought to have fallen to the ground although fortunately there was no on inside at the time.
