It looks like some Airbnb users are looking for more than a place to lay their head in the evening when they are on holiday - they're getting up close and personal with people very close by.

Business Insider Australia has reported that a small number of users freely admit to hooking up with people they met through the site.

Guests and hosts - both men and women - have all admitted to ending up in bed with someone they shared their space with during the visit.

While they asked to remain anonymous, those who were interviewed say they didn't choose their rental or guests based on looks, but when they finally met, things heated up.

One Airbnb host from the UK told Business Insider he'd slept with a Brazilian woman who was staying in his home one night in July. She then continued to spend the rest of her week-long stay sleeping in his room.

While another user, named Mary, spent the weekend on the coast with friends to practice their surfing. She admitted to spending the night with the 'proper surfer dude in his early forties' who they were staying with.

But it doesn't always turn out well for hosts and guests alike. The report also highlighted a number of incidents where Airbnb users have allegedly been raped.

Londoner Susy Anese told the publication: "I literally had to run away from my host in Paris and report him.

""He kept trying to hug and kiss me and saying he didn't want me to leave. He lay down with me Saturday night while I was trying to sleep. I got seriously afraid but I didn't want to say anything as I was scared about his reaction."
