Visitors to Berlin are flocking to an unusual tourist attraction - the hospital where Adolf Hitler was treated for a leg injury in 1916.

Historic military hospital Beelitz Heilstatten, located near Berlin, has been abandoned for decades but a new project has opened the haunting building to tourists to explore it in a unique way.

A wooden path in the treetops surrounding the building has been constructed for visitors.

The hospital was used as a film location for movies including The Pianist and Valkyrie, but also attracted vandals.

Beate Hoffmann, from Treetop paths, says: "Now this place is no 'lost place' anymore. It's a place where people can feel comfortable and gather to explore it. The more this place is developed, the less we will have unwanted guests."

The Huffington Post reports that during WWII, the hospital cared for many wounded Nazi soldiers and then the Soviet military from 1945 until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990.
