Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, told Glasgow's Evening Times: "To have been named both Scottish and UK Airport of the Year is a tremendous honour and it is an achievement the 5,000 people who work at Glasgow Airport can be proud of.

"We have also made a significant investment in enhancing our facilities for passengers but the most pleasing aspect has been our operational performance."

Glasgow Airport, Scotland's second busiest airport, was also named Scottish Airport of the Year in June.

Last year, Manchester Airport was named the UK Airport of the Year by the British Air Transport Association airlines.

It beat competition from Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham to win the category for best airport with six million passengers or more per year.

The industry award was given at the annual Airport Operators Association (AOA) awards and voted for by the British Air Transport Association airlines.
