The moment a young female whale spotted some divers in the distance and quickly approached them out of curiosity has been captured on video.

Now that might sound absolutely terrifying, whales can be huge animals after all, but all this happy character was looking for was some attention.

The footage shows the whale as she begins to play with them, rolling around on the surface of the water trying to catch their eyes.

It's not long before she tries a new technique in getting their attention, she spins around twirling her tail through the water in front of the divers.

The graceful animal then appears to look back at her admirers before floating calmly in the water waiting for a reaction.

She then appears to give up hope on her new playmates, as she gives one last tail-kick before floating off into the distance.

One couple were lucky to avoid the weight of a whale recently when it breached the water and landed on the kayak they were sitting in.

Whale watchers on a nearby ship saw the whale as it flew out of the water and landed face down back into the water right on top of the kayakers who were floating nearby.

One of the kayakers, Tom, a wildlife film director, recounted the experience, calling it "the most extraordinary thing to happen to me... We definitely understood how lucky we were, and were pretty confused."
