A 29-year-old woman was rescued from her mangled car after being trapped inside for two days when her vehicle crashed in Utah's American Fork Canyon.

Heather Blackwelder was found on Thursday by a couple of sightseers taking photos who heard her screaming for help.

According to KSL, Blackwelder was driving through a guardrail when she crashed and ended up several feet down the mountain.

Tourist Spencer Dryden, who was with his girlfriend Cleo Jackson, told KUTV: "We started to hear someone calling for help. I descended down the mountain and kept hearing the person's voice and she told me she was in a car wreck, and that she was trapped in her car and she couldn't move.

"I asked her, 'What happened?' and she said she had been there for two days. And I was astonished, 'how have you been there two days?'"

Dryden said his girlfriend called for help while he stayed with Blackwelder.

When rescue crews arrived, they were forced to peel off the roof of the car to get to her.

She was flown to hospital and is a serious but not life-threatening condition.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon, of the Utah County Sheriff's Office, said: "Had somebody not found her today or the next day or so she would have died.

"It could literally have been years before she was found. (The area) is not a hiking trail, it's not along a trail. It has thick trees and is on the side of the mountain. The car could have been well rusted before she was found."
