A woman is suing a number of nudist websites for using a naked picture of her at a naturist beach without her permission.

The 38-year-old, who comes from Italy and is known only as Stefania, had spent the day on a nudist beach while on holiday in the Canary Islands in August 2013.

According to Euro Weekly News, she had no idea she'd been photographed naked, and it only came to light recently when a friend emailed her a link he had seen on a nudist website.

She called the site to ask for it to be removed, but it transpired the picture had been picked up by a number of other naturist websites as well.

According to thelocal.it, Stefania told Il Giornale di Vicenza,: "When I saw that photo I nearly died.

"It's one thing deciding to spend the day with no clothes on at a nudist beach but it's another when everybody can see you as naked as the day you were born."

She has now launched a civil lawsuit against the websites, seeking €500,000 in damages.

A legal expert said: "Nudist beaches are public spaces, but she will argue that she went there with the right to and expectation of privacy."
