A flight from Las Vegas to Frankfurt was escorted to Denver by two fighter jets when a passenger became unruly and wanted to see her cat.

Passenger Fritz Peterson told CBS Local: "That lady wasn't happy with the crew putting their cat in the lavatory and then everything went wrong. She started screaming and shouting in the back."

Another passenger said: "She looked a little crazy in the mind."

The woman allegedly punched a flight attendant in the face and threatened to "bring the plane down".

Dashenka Giraldo was on the flight and told ABC7: "She said that she was part of the mafia and that the mafia follows her around the world and that she was able to bring the plane down if that needed to be the case if she couldn't see her cat."

The cat was in the woman's handbag when she boarded the flight and not in a pet carrier. Cabin crew decided to put it in the bathroom.

After the woman made threats, the pilot alerted authorities and two F-16 fighter jets were sent from Buckley Air Force Base.

The fight landed safely and the woman was questioned.

The FBI said she was not arrested and that the incident was a "misunderstanding".
