A bar in Sydney, Australia, has come under fire for objectifying women - by using naked women as 'fruit platters'.

The Cruise Bar, located at the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal, came under fire when pictures of its tropical-themed relaunch party emerged online, reports the Daily Telegraph.

7News uploaded a video to Twitter of the party, which was thrown for VIP guests.

But the bar has received a backlash for what it initially described as an "amazing" night, with a number of people and groups airing disapproval online.

One user wrote on the bar's Facebook page: "This bar uses naked women to feed people food off their bodies. It brings no dignity to these women and thinks that this is a great way to get people in. I had to put one star, but it's not even worth that. This is horrific."

Other users called it "unacceptable", "horrifying", and "appalling".

But one online user tried to make light of it and posted a picture of the scene from Sex and the City when Samantha covered herself in sushi for her boyfriend, writing: "Samantha did it better."

Meanwhile, according to SBS, Nova newsreader Matt de Groot defended the night, tweeting: "They were having fun. No one was forced to do anything. There were near equal male/female models. A good night."
