Passengers were seen jumping from a ferry to escape a fire in the Philippines on Saturday.

The packed ferry, MV Wonderful Sea, had just pulled into the port at Ormoc from Cebu City when it was engulfed in flames.

9news.com.au reports that two crew members suffered cuts and bruises in the incident but none of the 544 passengers on board were injured.

A dramatic video showed the ferry's VIP passengers escaping from a window and jumping for their lives as black smoke is seen around them.

Philstar reports that the fire destroyed the ferry's cargo.

The owners and operators of the ferry, Roble Shipping Lines, several brand new cars were on board to be delivered to a dealer in Leyte.

An investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the fire.

The Philippine Coast Guard received an initial report that the blaze started from the crew's cabin but spokesman Armand Balilo said, "We still have to check on that."

In February, a tourist boat with 25 people on board burst into flames in Vietnam's Ha Long Bay.

Passengers included 16 foreigners, a tour guide, a cruise attendant and seven crew members. Luckily, they were all rescued just in time.

According to Thanhnien News, flames swept through the three-star cruiser while it was anchored at the bay.

All 25 people on board were taken safely to Ti Top Island.
